Decembers Update From The Gasworks

News from The gasworks

DECEMBER 2022
We continue to make good progress continues with the capital works. Since our last report a layer of membrane, insulation and underfloor heating pipes have been installed in the Main Hall along with a layer of screed.  The wall cladding to this room has also commenced both internally and externally.  The last job of 2023 was installing the octagonal roof light, which will make this space extra special! To complete the flooring timber floorboards will be installed in this area early next year.

National Grid have been on site for a number of days to intsall the power connection and the new village transformer.

The first fix electrical works are in progress and the water connection is also in place.

As many of you will have seen, the conservation repairs including pointing work, stone repairs and structural repairs to the chimneys and gables are now complete and we hope you all agree are looking wonderful.

Last week our first interpretation item was delivered which is the frame for the retort bench (to explain how the coal was heated to produce gas).

The Volunteers from WELLIES have been busy in the woodland area, clearing the undergrowth and building new structures and adding a natural seating area. In the new year we will see the amazing bug hotel brought to site which has been hand made in the WELLIES workshop.

Our Local History Group volunteers have continued their hard work collecting and curating the history of The Gasworks, Sudbury Village and past residents. Some of this will be on display within The Gasworks when we open next year and also an informative village trail is currently under development.
