November Update From The Gasworks

NOVEMBER 2022

What a busy month! Despite the rain we have made great progress this month.
The Retort room internal scaffolding was removed which uncovered the newly finished and very impressive roof space.
The inside walls have been steam cleaned which has removed the white paint from the lower wall levels. There has been some stubborn areas but we feel it gives the building character. It is also a nod to the painted history of Sudbury buildings. Have you noticed the yellow paint on the walls of the cottages on School Lane?
The team working on the external walls have done a fantastic job with the brickwork. Individual bricks removed and replaced with reclaimed ones. Damaged bricks repaired using resin. You will not be able to tell.
The Gasholder has started to be clad. The roofing team have been working in all weathers trying to get the roof weather proof.

For those that have booked please remember to wrap up warm and don’t forget there will be Jacket Potatoes plus a selection of hot and cold drinks to buy.

There will be no parking onsite so please park on main road and walk down. It is also a good idea to bring a torch as street lighting in Sudbury is not great. For those needing to park closer to site the School have kindly offered their car park for the event. Spaces are limited so please only use if you need to be closer to site.

We are opening The Gasworks site to allow you to see how work has progressed.

In December we hope to be just a few months away from completion. It will be a fantastic opportunity to see the conservation work to date, how the new hall and linkway are taking shaping, plus discuss the future use of the building and asperations for the project after the capital works have completed.

We have a limited amount of spaces so please reserve yours now. You will not be able to turn up on the day without booking.

DERBYSHIRE OPEN ARTS 2023

The Gasworks will be a venue for the Derbyshire Open Arts trail taking place on the 27th-29th May, with the help and guidance of Lesley from Hothouse Ceramics based in the Courtyard, Sudbury.

We are so excited to be offering our brand new exhibition space for this event. The recently restored Grade II listed former gasworks has had a modern extension to create three stunning exhibition spaces. From the original industrial style building to the newly built round hall.

We are looking for gallery quality artists, crafts people and designer makers. We have space for 16 artisans within our building. Each artists will have space for a 6ft table and small side table. We do also have hanging rail systems for those that may wish to hang art work.
