Works start at the Gasworks!
Following a successful grant increase request from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, building works at Sudbury Gasworks are going to commence on Monday 7th March 2022.
H. A. Briddon have been appointed as the lead contractor. They are local conservation contractor, whose portfolio includes projects with the Framework Knitters’ Museum, Ingestre Orangery and the Chatsworth Estate. For more information on the company, please visit their website www.habriddon.co.uk
The programme is expected to take 44 weeks (plus a two week break over Christmas).
The contractors have been made fully aware of the challenges with School Lane, including access to the school, and are very conscious that the site has neighbours directly surrounding the gasworks building. Working hours are expected to be 7.30am-4.30pm Mon-Fri.
The contractors will provide Sudbury Gasworks Restoration Trust with a programme of works so that Sudbury Gasworks Restoration Trust can communicate and prepare for what is happening. This will also highlight when any particularly large deliveries etc., are expected so we can provide advance notice.
Following confirmation of the programme of works, we will also be scheduling public consultation meetings enabling residents and interested parties to meet with members of the Sudbury Gasworks Restoration Trust team, to be informed of upcoming developments and discuss any potential concerns.
These meetings will be led by a sub-committee, headed by Trustees of Sudbury Gasworks Restoration Trust, Lisa Gascoyne and Julie White, and facilitated by Gasworks Manager, Rachael Cooksey. You will receive further information regarding these meetings within the next two weeks.
During the works, we are also hoping to run a series of ‘hard hat tours’, giving local people the chance to see ‘behind the scenes’ and find out more about the transformation of the building into a flexible community facility.
